# `METHOD.md`

What the method says, and which shelf of literature arrives when.

## What it holds

An index, then **What the method says, held at every stage**: Gioia, Corley and Hamilton (2013) as the spine; Grodal, Anteby and Holm (2021) and the eight moves; Eisenhardt (1989) for the cases; Van de Ven and Poole (1990), Langley (1999) and Suddaby (2006); and the adaptation, hierarchy, explanation and critique shelves, each with its read and on-request works. Then **The shape of the run**: A1 to D3 as Gioia with the return, D4 and D5 as the taxonomy, E1 as the audit; the four licences a judgement stage names; the fleets as "a prosthesis, not a panel"; three things Gioia has that this design lacks; what to write in a methods section.

## Who writes it, and when

Written with the instrument; `build.sh` copies it to the root. Read whole at A1 and again at C2.

## Why it exists

The contract names the method in its opening lines, and METHOD says "Nothing here overrides the contract." Rule 17 requires every judgement stage to say which of METHOD's four licences it used and which it did not.
