# `STANDING-INSTRUCTIONS.md`

What the analyst holds, the tools, its memory, and the shape of a leg.

## What it holds

Two sections. **§1 What you hold**: the package, the store and its files, the forest ("A reply is a reply"), room notes as the prior, helpers and their four rules, the tool list, the verbs added or changed in the last tools pass, and "Know what you are reading". **§2 Your memory, and the shape of a leg**: the `out/` tree with a writer on each line (A the analyst, S a script at close, H the harness, F a fleet or the labelers), stages, steps and legs, the startup packet, the move, the cut, the recall probe, compaction, the ceilings, the comparisons any leg can make, safe stops and pausing, and the eleven interview points.

## Who writes it, and when

Written with the instrument; `build.sh` copies it to the root. It is given with every stage beside the contract.

## Why it exists

The contract points here for how memory and legs work ("Think on disk"; §4). It is where the memory design is written down: "The diary is not read whole by anyone"; the head is the summary, the closing line of each leg the digest, and the rest the record.
