## Chronology

The visible case starts late in the canvas window, not when the canvas opened. At d1 04-02 07:38 a moderator made Discord “our main base of operations” in `62yh1s`; by d1 04-02 10:20, 02:42:03 later, `62yydi` was sharing “Plans on second doggo.” This opening episode, bounded by `62yh1s` and `62yydi`, is one of recruiting builders and moving coordination off Reddit. The subreddit itself was an event product: when `dfqrgbi` asked whether it was “made just for the /r/place doggo,” `dfre26k` answered “yup!”

The next episode begins with a Dutch approach at d1 04-02 11:05. `62z3f6` asks GoodBoye to stop “destroying our beautiful red, white and blue borders” so the groups can coexist. Participants initially answer in incompatible terms: `dfq3ksz` says they are building a second doggo rather than destroying the border, while `62z7n6` simply calls “Fight the dutch.” The thread then records an explicit reversal: after `dfq46vo` reports a moderator-approved dog-with-clogs plan, `dfq4mkc` says “I take it back this is great” 00:21:22 later. A participant subsequently explains in `dfq5x8e` that giving one dog clogs was the “Agreement with the Dutch”; this is the participant's own explanation of the bargain, not independent proof that the bargain caused the image to survive. Cooperation remains practical as well as rhetorical: `dfqq24l` answers a Dutch design request with “yes go for it, we can help.” This negotiation episode runs from `62z3f6` to `dfqq24l` and includes threats, misunderstanding, correction, design approval and mutual help rather than a single clean moment of consensus.

Building and defence then overlap. People circulate a heart guide in `62zrat`, doggo blueprints in `6317ra`, and rainbow-road plans that send readers back to Discord in `6315cg`. They also police limits. When `6313d0` asks what to do with space above them, moderator `dfqj08h` says to “leave it be” because they do not want to invade Dutch allies; when `634v0q` proposes another dog, moderator `dfrdzom` says taking that much space would be unfair to other artworks. These are supported reasons given by participants, not inferred effects.

A distinct raid-and-negotiation episode begins at d2 04-03 05:46 when `634x2p` calls for “reinforcements” against vandalism. Its comments are taken over by a group demanding visible buttholes. `dfres5g` argues that the drawn pose would make doggo and cloggo twist uncomfortably, while `dfrex7e` promises to “redouble our efforts.” The exchange reaches a narrow accommodation: `dfrfjeq` permits the butthole on condition that nothing else is vandalised, and `dfrfkf7` replies “Agreed!” 00:01:13 later. The whole episode from `634x2p` to `dfrfkf7` lasts 01:11:41. Importantly, `dfrfm9o` says “I speak of my own opinion,” so the record supports an interpersonal agreement, not a community-wide settlement.

In the final hour, automation is visible as a practical limit. At d3 04-03 16:21, `dfrxjva` says scripts had the blep hardcoded; at d3 04-03 16:23, `637tv6` warns people not to use scripts with the wrong coordinates. The first farewell, `6387vy` at d3 04-03 17:21, follows that warning by 00:58:49 and says it was “a fun 72 hours.” Later comments call Doggo and Cloggo “part of Reddit history” (`dfs3ign`) and claim “We were pixel perfect at the end” (`dfs3y9v`). These are participants' retrospective claims; they do not establish an objectively perfect canvas. The closing thanks in `639q6g` comes 04:03:33 after `6387vy` and credits everyone who “came together to help out.”

The record does not end with remembrance. At d3 04-03 22:26, 01:00:52 after `639q6g`, `63a5dx` asks “What should we do?” Subsequent polls in `63a7bs` and `63al78` deliberate over the new community's future. Moderator `63aa08` names the alternatives—possibly expanding to another place copycat, but “today we post dogs!”—and `dfskb3s` offers r/doggos sidebar recognition if Goodboye chooses to become a doggo subreddit. This future-making episode runs from `63a5dx` to `dfskb3s` over 01:21:59. The ordinary dog-photo threads that follow show what the room returned to, but they were excluded because they do not visibly concern the event.

## Relations — what set off what

The clearest supported relation is corrective: the fight call in `62z7n6` is answered by `dfq46vo`, which says the moderators had agreed to a second doggo with clogs; `dfq4mkc` then explicitly retracts the fight call—“I take it back this is great”—00:21:22 after that answer. The relation rests on the reply's words and explicit reversal, not reply adjacency alone.

The Dutch bargain has a participant-supplied causal account. `dfq5x8e` says the agreement “to prevent them from destroying these goodboys was to give one clogs.” That supports reporting what this speaker believed produced agreement. It does not prove that clogs caused Dutch cooperation across either community, especially because `62zq0v` later still describes “fighting the dutch,” while `dfqcozm` answers that Dutch participants “were working with you.” The supported pattern is contested interpretation followed by repeated cooperation talk, not a proven single cause or a community changing its mind as one actor.

The butthole exchange supports a narrower relation. `dfrfjeq` offers conditional permission—“Do what you want with the butthole. Just don't let them vandalise anything else”—and direct reply `dfrfkf7` says “Agreed!” after 00:01:13. That is an accepted condition between those speakers. It does not establish authority over the canvas because `dfrfm9o` specifically disclaims speaking for the subreddit.

Other sequences remain sequences. The wrong-coordinate warning in `637tv6` is followed 00:58:49 later by the goodbye in `6387vy`, but neither passage says the warning caused the farewell. Likewise, `639q6g` thanks participants and `63a5dx` opens a future poll 01:00:52 later; the corpus shows succession after the event, not that gratitude caused the poll.

## Posts against comments

The sharpest contradiction is: the post says “Fight the dutch” in `62z7n6`; the comment layer says the moderators agreed to the clog plan in `dfq46vo`, and the poster answers “I take it back this is great” in `dfq4mkc`. A second post/comment contrast appears in `62zq0v`: the post narrates half a Sunday “fighting the dutch,” while comment `dfqcozm` says Dutch people were working with and helping Goodboye. These are contrasting speakers' accounts, not evidence that the whole community changed position.

In `634x2p`, the post says the place image is being vandalised and asks for reinforcements; the comment layer initially treats the thread as a butthole dispute. The opening author repeatedly says “I wasn't talking about buttholes” in `dfrev90`, while the later comments negotiate whether the butthole may remain. The layers therefore discuss different perceived threats before partially converging on protecting everything else.

The post in `637cg7` asks whether tongues can be removed and says the author's attempts are reverted. The comment layer supplies a participant explanation in `dfrxjva`: several scripts have the blep hardcoded, so “good luck fighting it.” That explains why one requested design change was practically unavailable, but only from this speaker's account.

Several claims live mainly in posts: Discord is called the main base in `62yh1s`, plans and blueprints appear as submissions in `62yydi` and `6317ra`, and final survival is celebrated in `6389f4`. Comments add the negotiation, reversals and implementation limits that make those announcements less tidy.

## Counter-reading

My reading before search was: Goodboye converted a threatened Dutch border fight into negotiated Cloggo cooperation, defended the shared image, and then carried it into a new subreddit identity.

The competing account recorded before search was that the apparent agreements were mostly talk while scripts and bots determined the image. If that account were right, the corpus should contain participants explicitly saying designs or agreements were overridden by automated placement, or renewed attacks after the claimed alliance.

The strongest contrary item is `dfrxjva`: “There are a bunch of different scripts running, most have the blep hardcoded so good luck fighting it.” `dfsbvtu` reinforces the point by saying a pixel was fixed several times but “kept reverting,” and the late-coded `dfqdou0` hopes a user stopped “scripting over” Annoying Dog. The automation search also returned bot boilerplate and false substring matches, which were read but do not bear on the account. A separate conflict-term search returned the early fight material and `62zq0v`'s later “fighting the dutch” claim; it found no explicit later call to renew an attack after the accepted clog plan. That null is limited to those terms in this small, partially removed Reddit record and says nothing about Discord or unrecorded scripts.

The counter-reading changes the claim from “negotiation controlled the image” to “negotiation organised social cooperation while automated placement constrained particular visual choices.” The explicit reversals in `dfq4mkc`, conditional agreements in `dfrfkf7`, later ally language in `639cg3`, and collective thanks in `639q6g` survive. What does not survive is any claim that subreddit agreement alone determined every pixel.

## Saturation

The visible Reddit record is nearly whole as a sequence: every thread was disposed, 61 were read in full, and the only two window-only exclusions were short ordinary-dog threads whose windows did not touch the event. Twenty-one items are marked deleted or removed, including ten post bodies; surviving titles support some conduct, but the missing bodies sharply limit what the polls and assistance pleas can establish. The supplied pre-week briefing is empty, so it cannot show which idioms or practices predated this event.

The practice set stabilises across repeated Dutch negotiation, planning and defence threads, but a genuinely new practice appears after placement ends: deciding whether Goodboye should pursue another canvas or become a dog subreddit. Later in-window submissions are ordinary dog sharing rather than further event practice. Saturation is therefore good for the visible Reddit-side arc, but incomplete for decision-making: `62yh1s` explicitly calls Discord the “main base of operations,” and its plans return to Reddit without the deliberation that produced them.

## Selection

I read the briefing and the complete openings file before triage, as the case-lead instrument requires. I then followed all 63 threads in corpus order. Any window that touched r/place was opened whole; 61 threads were read whole and two short ordinary-dog threads were dropped from their windows. Forty-seven threads were retained because they showed building, negotiating, defending, recounting, mourning or deciding what to do after the event. Ordinary dog images and general subreddit praise without a visible event connection were excluded. The openings oriented selection but supplied no coded evidence.

## Other communities named

Dutch-facing references dominate. r/TheNetherlands, r/CirkelTrek and r/PlaceNL are places from which negotiation, plans and assistance are said to come; the corpus cannot show those communities' own decisions. r/Samoyeds supplies a proposed tail in `dfq5spx`. r/Undertale and r/Ireland are named as allies in `dfrrecw`, while r/goodboyes is rejected as a destination because it is described as inactive in `630811`. At the end, the r/doggos moderator in `dfskb3s` offers sidebar recognition if Goodboye chooses the dog-subreddit path. Discord is different from these subreddit references: `62yh1s` says organising moved there, while Reddit receives invitations, plans and warnings but not the main deliberation.

## Absence

Deleted post bodies are concentrated in brief invitations, polls and pleas. Their surviving titles—such as the assistance plea in `62zowx` and future poll in `63a7bs`—are codeable, but they do not reveal answer options, motives or outcomes. Deleted comments inside negotiations are left absent; no attempt was made to reconstruct them. Automatic replies from HDPwinwpQZgNGnV8gEvScwe5xe8=, ak8mHicoYo+XnEtxsYKkVVOMg2s=, gi3LeL5wiyi4tkRuH3EDtH1k/LE= and Ot5ZwuJI4kSBTk/cC7QKS2QFmuU= were treated as platform setting rather than community conduct. Human invocations and responses were retained where they mattered. No textual evidence establishes who ran the placement scripts, how many pixels they controlled, or what decisions remained exclusively on Discord.
