Head, claude-v43-1
Under 3,000 words, rewritten whole at every close. Last written at
C2a-03, 2026-10-14 (UTC). Stages A1 to C1 are done; stage B is frozen.
Stage C2 (the model: the loop) closed its third pass at this leg: tests
of pass 2's residues, one new arrow, the third story and 32 rooms read
whole against it. validate.py C2 before the close: 0
errors, 0 warnings. Pass 3 goes to C2b next.
The method question, in one sentence
Can independently reconstructed case histories be composed into a shared dynamic account that supports explanations at successive levels of specificity, from population-wide patterns, through forms and subforms, to particular organizational histories, while keeping access to the evidence from which those explanations were developed?
The theory question is unchanged: when strangers organize on a clock they did not set, with no way to compel anyone and no goal given to them, what forms does organizing take, how do they differ in their functioning, and which of them keep the work alive?
The current account, and the contrary rooms
Pass 3's model keeps pass 2's spine, branches and close, and adds the host's line. A member starts a mark, calls gather hands, the hands build, and keeping the mark becomes the work. The calls fill the host sub, and the sub draws a line around them: one thread, removals, a canvas sub. Keeping the mark brings the room up against neighbours: it talks with them, a room short of hands turns to other rooms for help, and rooms under a common threat join coalitions. A call can also turn hands against a rival's work; most such calls are answered inside the room. A room that judges it cannot hold its spot moves, and keeps calling. The close runs in order: celebrated, recorded, carried on. Some rooms have no readers before the canvas: side subs a readership opens, and bodies the canvas gathers. They run the same steps from their founding.
The room that best supports the account is stevenuniverse, drawn by seed at pass 3 and told whole in the story's terms, from its first call to its record, with borders, truces, refused attacks and the host's megathread between. The room that most threatens it is still greenlattice: the canvas gathered it as a colour faction, it ruled on other rooms' applications to build, and its members split over whether the lattice was art to keep pure or a home for guests. The condition between them is whether the room's own membership decides whom it fights and whom it admits. A readership that brings a work to the canvas is told. A body whose faith, history or ideology picks its rival and rules on its guests is not yet told.

Stage C2, pass 3, in short
The opening message (two arrow ids written out): "C2a-02 is closed and pushed. This leg is C2a-03, the next pass of stage C2, as the stage file says and your pass 2 notes plan (membership carried in, hosting, the host's policing, and the clauses for the machine-hands and carrying-on bounds). J's rulings stand."
Declarations first, in notes-C2.md:
candidate elements (membership carried in over 22 third-order themes,
not the quarrel theme alone; hosting; the host's line), seven tests with
mechanisms and failure clauses, five grounds for reading hosts' rulings,
an empty-brief rule and the story-room rule.
Seven order tests, three beaten, one admitted. Calls then the host's line: 132 of 155 rooms (0.852, null p95 0.594), on both sides; the new arrow. Membership then hosting beat the null (0.750 against 0.714) and was refused: its mechanism shows in 5 of 21 holding rooms. Upkeep then coalition held on the narrowed element; the split was not taken. Not beaten: membership then attack (0.593 against 0.634), and exchange, coalition or upkeep then hosting.
How hosts admit guests. 61 vetting concepts in 7 rooms: fit with the body 6, space or design 12, ties 5, procedure alone 24, none 14. "A host admits guests by fit with the body" fails. The six hosts whose own rulings are cited were founded by the canvas.
Rooms the canvas founded (78 of 705 have an empty pre-event brief) run the story's steps from their founding, so the story's opening sentence stands as a bound. What three of them do as hosts and colour faiths is a form the model does not reach.
The model. 27 elements, 24 standing, three candidates (a quarrel carried in, membership carried in, hosting). 20 arrows (8 strong, 6 fair, 6 thin), all on quotes and a transition, 18 beating the null. The move's arrow is bounded by a late room and a coalition's plan. Three new findings. 53 of 197 third-order themes unused. No loop, no tier recut.
The story and its rooms. 32 rooms drawn before any was opened (seed 20261017), 11 fresh. Told 16, told-with-residue 16, not-told 0 (pass 2: 14, 18, 0). 7 of 11 fresh rooms are told.
The idiom rule, and its caveat. Set at the ninth room and kept: membership that only gives the idiom of the steps counts as told; membership that picks the rival, the guest or the work is a residue. It was not declared before the pass. By pass 2's practice the count would be 17 or 18. By neither reading did it rise.
Residues, the next pass's material: membership that picks the rival or the work (10 rooms); hosting and its rulings (7), hosts with readers before the canvas among them; a founded faction splitting over doctrine (2); learning how others organize, and fear of newcomers (1 each).
What the structure showed that the notes did not predict. Hosts mostly rule without a ground, and where they give one it is space or design. Hosting comes before a coalition more often than after one. Membership carried in mostly gives the idiom; where it picks the rival, it makes half the residue.
The criterion applied. Pass 3 is preferred: fewer residues on a draw of the same size, more fresh rooms told, no element loosened, and a beaten test refused because its mechanism did not show. The stopping rule cannot stop (1 tier event, 2 arrow changes, story sentences changed); no stop is declared. Pass 3 goes to C2b.
Slips (in notes-C2.md): the idiom rule
set mid-pass; the ties ground extended after the declaration; a story
sentence on hosts corrected after the reading; one forest page over the
output limit; two refused cut -c commands; one page read
before the reconciliation line; six head edits run as parallel
calls.
Stage C2, passes 1 and 2, in short
Pass 1 (C2a-01). The stage opened after C1a-11. J, away, ruled at 23:24 Berlin: "If I am not back please simply review and make the interview you find appropriate. Then start C2", and "Remember Gioia Corley Hamilton and the job the agent has. Remember we need to give it confidence so they can gain intuition and trust on the model." The handler answers questions under J's delegation of 23:26 Berlin. The interview's points are working hypotheses, not findings. Pass 1: seven dimensions, the one-line enrolment chosen provisionally, and 20 elements and 12 arrows on the connection statement "the first concept of FROM comes before the first concept of TO", with a null of 500 shuffles within each room (seed 20261014). Twenty story rooms, all told with residue.
Pass 2 (C2a-02). Twelve tests, seven grounded, among them attack then restraint inside the room (0.788). Contention was split as an eighth dimension by a rule written first. 24 elements, 19 arrows. Told 14, told-with-residue 18. The contest is mostly a room arguing with itself.
Stage C1, in short (carry the rulings)
- QC1-001 (J). C1 rechecks place each item by the amended gates over the whole scheme. The guard counted 62 moves to a theme neither reader nor my B1 placed, 32 of them at pass 2 onto T3-084.
- QC1-002 (J). Lean to one placement. A second theme needs three concepts or more of its own.
- QC1-003 (the handler, under J's delegation). Five
revision-rate errors no verb can apply stay as found in
out/_analysis/c1_unapplied.jsonl; all 34 errors count in the rate. - Reading rules (
scheme_v2.md). The visitor rule: a theme names an act in the record of the room whose threads hold the words. "The work" is the room's own unless a field names another's. A bare mention of the event holds no act. J's floor: "when it has concepts of its own" means three or more. The named words of T3-010 | T3-149 (attack, war, fight, battle, invasion, raid, conquest). Help between rooms is read from either room's record. A member's own part is T3-003; credit to others is T3-043. - Scheme v2 has no transmission figure until fresh readers test it; stage B4's figure describes the frozen scheme.
J's rulings on how a ruling is made (13 October; carry them)
- QB4-001 (J, 06:43 Berlin): "Ask it to stop. The point is to try to adjudicate. I imagine that the additions are really just the analyst trying to be nice. And not go back on what others said".
- J's rulings (06:45 and 06:47 Berlin): a ruling chooses among the placements and adds no theme beyond them; it takes the union only when it names, for each theme it keeps, the separate concept that carries it.
- also_present (J, 09:09; QB4-002, 09:20; QB4-003, 11:29): lists only themes a reader placed, a reader listed, or my B1 named; themes a reader listed count in the bag test.
- Lone B1 themes (J, 12:28): "Whatever the agent feels more comfortable with." A theme only my B1 placed stands only with three concepts of its own.
Rule 0 inside the placements. A concept counts
toward a placed theme when that theme's must_show takes it
and no field sends it to another placed theme. Order by concept count,
ties by placements; at most three. The bag test: four
themes with three concepts each make a bag.
J's rulings that bind (carry them)
- Bags. No one cuts the bags (J, 12:24 Berlin). A bag
stays one item: one theme placed, its others under
also_present, each with three concepts of its own. - The bound (J, 13:47).
also_presentnames "twenty themes at most". - The not-flagged bag (J, QB2-013). With no other
theme at the floor,
item_is_a_bagis false andalso_present{}. - Fleet ids (J, 09:14 and 12:15). Packets carry only fleet ids; my files keep room ids.
Standing words from J and the PI (carry into every head)
J's words for B1 (7 October 2026): "national
elements are very important here"; "we need to get as much variance on
organizing behavior early on so that later we have enough to create the
model". National, political and conflict content is study material,
named as plainly as any other. The handler's rule: a
choice to leave out or soften content for any reason other than the
study's goes to J first with mem.py ask, and the content
stays meanwhile.
J on reading (11 October, 16:54 Berlin). Stop
cutting room reads to a line length. Read room lines whole. Page a long
read by line ranges or offset, never by truncating lines. Use
--width N on a mem.py read if a clip is ever
needed.
J on asking (11 October, 17:01 Berlin). Ask J with
mem.py ask whenever a question is needed; asking does not
stop the run.
The PI's clarifications (8 October, approved by J): the thresholds are the design's heuristic; the rule is unchanged.
How to work, from J (8 October, 23:45 Berlin, "can you do a
hot change for the batching?"; relayed by the handler at 22:03Z; carry
this paragraph into every head). A change in how I work, not in
what I read or decide. Fewer turns. When two or more tool calls do not
depend on each other's output, make them in one turn. Chain ordered
commands in one Bash call with &&, so that a failure stops the
rest; for example, the mem.py log or note just decided,
then the next mem.py codes. Never put a write in the same
turn as the read it depends on. Never run two writes to the same file as
separate parallel calls. Keep one room's material per read, as now.
Every tool still writes its own record; nothing about what I read or
decide changes.
Two rules from J at B1b-29 (through the handler, 20:10Z;
carry them into every head). Write rule 0 lines and bags with
b1_multiplace_write4.py and
b1_bags_from_file2.py, not the old scripts, which made one
mem.py call per row of the whole table and grew to 8.5
minutes a write. Never end a turn while a job runs in the background;
run every write and check in the foreground.
The pilot's declarations, and stage B in one line
Agreement is Jaccard on placement sets (alpha on 1 − Jaccard);
primary exact agreement beside, never in place. Gold: 40 items, never
shown to a reader. Stage B: B2 stability 0.807 is the floor every later
figure is read against; B4 ruled 3,288 contested items;
assign_final.jsonl is stage B's settled line,
unchanged.
Open, carried
- From C2. The pass 3 residues above. The idiom rule's caveat on the told-with-residue count. Two thin pass 2 arrows at risk from many tests. The relationship I most expected and could not ground at pass 1: attribution as the hinge between restraint and attack.
- The reviewer. One hostile reader, built in C2b from pass 3. Next.
- From C1. 13 third-order themes whose fourth-order
home the partition forced; thin constructs (Decided order, Neo-tribes,
Symbolic boundaries; Stigmergy on two large themes); recalled sources
for stage C3;
c1_unapplied.jsonl(5); four kinds the scheme lacks; the form-pass findings, taken by id and never counted. - From B1. J counts 841 B1 bags; an older head said 846. Not reconciled.
- My doubts. Where words carry no speaker's sub I read them as the room's own. The verdicts and the vetting coding are mine alone until the reviewer reads them.
Rules kept
- Never type an id, an order or a name from memory; check with a
script. Never log a write before the tool answers. Count a ledger's
lines after appending. A claim about a ledger is checked against the
ledger before it is logged. A finding cited by an element must exist in
findings.jsonlbefore the element is logged. - There is no
--kind closeand no--kind episode; log those as notes. - A question to J is
mem.py ask "<question>" --assume "<meanwhile>". Read an answer withmem.py asks <id>. An open distinction is a file inout/_questions/, read withmem.py question <slug>. - Never put a placeholder or a no-op in a command or a log line. Never put an Edit or Write and the read, dry run or validator run that checks it in one turn. Count the head's words before the closing line.
- Never write an id-like token the run does not define in the head,
such as a dimension or element id or a form-pass id:
done.shreads it as an unresolved link. - The permission check refuses: shell variables set and expanded in a
command; shell loops and words beginning "for_" (an inline Python line
starting with "for" included); shell functions, brace groups and
heredocs; awk with system() or
$fields; env-var prefixes; cat or jq onout/diary/;cut -cin any command, even on an analysis file (use--widthon amem.pyread);head -n -N. Write a script file inout/_analysis/instead..gitis read-denied, and so are reads outside the run folder, the system's temporary folder included. mem.pypages long output (--offset,--limit). A Bash output above about 30 KB is cut and saved where it cannot be read; page a forest by about 210 to 250 lines and a room page by about 240. Never pipe a room read throughhead. A Read above about 25,000 tokens is refused.- After a compaction the guard requires the head and the stage file
read again in full, without offset or limit, after the compaction
notice, and the exact line "compacted; head reconciled" through
mem.py log --kind note, in a call of its own, before any other step, a read included. - Never delete a file; supersede it with a new name. A generated document that must keep its name is corrected in place with Edit, and the script that wrote it is fixed too.
The next comparison
C2b, the reviewer's build leg (stage file section 6), from pass 3.
Read the stage file's section 6, FLEET.md, the platform
file's reviewer route and tools/packets.py first. Then:
- Append the stage's entry to
run_manifest.json: the reader's model, seed and decoding. - Write
RETURN-C2.md: the return line, the end marker, and the line telling the reader to confirm it reached it. - Build one packet with
packets.py files --stage C2 --name C2-reviewer, under the 50 KB ceiling. The stage listsstructure.md,fourth/fourth.jsonl,dimensions.jsonl,model.md,model/, the last story, the criterion paragraph and the verbs, withroomserved--no-canvas; nothing else of mine. The listed files are far over the ceiling (structure-p2.mdabout 1 MB,model-p3.md52 KB, the arrows ledger 70 KB). Decide what is served from pass 3, say in the notes what was cut and why, and serve the pass 3 model as the file whose sha256 the return names. - Copy the instruction verbatim into
review-C2.mdabove its return. - Close with
done.sh C2 --cut packets-outand stop.
