r/armenia
Chronology
When the canvas opened, r/armenia was still conducting its ordinary
week: 62mneo invited people into a “Friday Music Thread,”
while 62npvj announced the end of the election campaign and
the coming election. The event first appears at d0 04-01 02:12 in
62pxxs, whose surviving title calls “LET'S PUT A FLAG IN
/R/PLACE.” The first flag-making episode runs from 62pxxs
to dfpvls8 at d1 04-02 04:44. In between,
62qqvs asks the room to “make an Armenian Flag,”
participants work out colours, borders, coordinates and a flagpole, and
dfp16pe announces an alliance with r/greece in which “They
will help us and we will help them.” Defence, westward expansion and
bargaining with neighbours then sit alongside one another. Completion is
immediately provisional: dfpvaxu says “WE DID IT!”, and its
reply dfpvls8 answers, “Now just gotta maintain lol.” This
account of slice 01 comes from its coder’s full-thread reading, checked
against the pooled codes and forest.
A second episode, from dfpxzoh at d1 04-02 06:13 to
dfqulpa at d2 04-02 22:46, moves through celebration,
takeover and rebuilding. dfpxzoh says “It is done!” and,
3.5 minutes later across the 01|02 slice boundary, 62y7ms
celebrates “a full Armenian flag, and Armenia heart.” Later Dutch
takeover posts and comments report the flag disappearing.
dfq7ie2 explicitly joins loss to relocation: “they are
overwhelming us, we must move to Little Armenia.” Participants start
another flag above Turkey, then move above India with permission,
exchange help, use Discord, and declare the replacement finished. The
episode closes when dfqulpa directs people to a replacement
megathread. The chronology is continuous across slices, but no single
coder read both sides of the boundary.
The megathread episode runs from 632tpb at d2 04-02
22:45 to dfs08jx at d3 04-03 17:15. 632tpb
says the flag has had “a very long journey” and keeps all place
conversation together so election readers can follow that instead. Its
comments coordinate borders, lettering, hearts and mutual help while
also exposing encroachment on Squidward, a non-binary flag and pride
flags. Some speakers ask for restraint and repair; others report
continuing damage. These contrasting positions do not establish that the
whole community changed its mind. At the close, dfs08jx
says the flag and hearts are a few pixels short of perfect but “it was
worth it.”
After placement ended, a retrospective episode runs from
639m6i at d3 04-03 21:10 to dft1sdd at d3
04-04 06:59. People joke about permanent mistakes, thank India and
recount failed locations before the surviving flag. 63azno
cheers “everyone who participated” and India. Alongside that
retrospective, 63awgq through dfst1ao tries to
carry the practice into “place 2.0” with new coordinates and a proposal
to write “ARMENIA” so viewers recognize the flag; the record does not
show its outcome. 63bn9n then complains that place posts
crowd out “/Armenia stuff,” and dft1sdd predicts they will
die down because the event ended. Later openings return to tutoring,
genocide commemoration and political reporting in 63cm2x,
63e6eo, and 63ezrw.
Relations — what set off what
An explicit mutual-help promise precedes the call to defend Greece.
dfp16pe says r/greece “will help us and we will help them
fight against invaders”; 212.4 minutes later, 62ustd calls
Greece “our Greek brothers” and asks the room to defend their flag. The
later post names the ally and the promised practice, so this is more
than adjacency.
Completion directly sets off maintenance inside one reply pair.
dfpvaxu says “WE DID IT!”; 10.0 minutes later its direct
reply dfpvls8 says, “Now just gotta maintain lol.” By
contrast, dfpxzoh saying “It is done!” and
62y7ms celebrating the full flag 3.5 minutes later is only
a sequence across 01|02, not evidence that the first caused the second.
[crosses 01|02]
The first flag’s disappearance supports a relocation relation in the
participant’s own explanation: dfq7ie2 says “they are
overwhelming us, we must move to Little Armenia” and proposes doing
something new “rather than fight the larger numbers.” This is a
participant’s explanation of the move, not an independently established
causal law.
Retaliation is argued over rather than simply adopted.
dfq6t2w proposes replacing the Turkish flag; 15.7 minutes
later in the same reply chain, dfq79xc asks, “Why do we
have to ruin someone else's flag because the Dutch ruined ours?” Another
reply, dfq7khm, follows 9.3 minutes later with “Pixels not
politics!” The supported relation is proposal, refusal and endorsement
of that refusal; it does not show unanimous agreement.
The r/THE_PACK material establishes a contested border but not a
settled outcome. dfqru02 warns, “Stop pushing into
/r/THE_PACK” and threatens to push back; dfqsmi5 separately
calls for “a truce with the /r/THE_PACK before this turns into a war.”
Because the turns are not a documented call-and-answer pair, the corpus
supports a sequence of encroachment warning and truce advocacy, not the
claim that the warning caused the truce call.
Thread replacement does cross a slice boundary with explicit textual
support. 632tpb establishes “/r/place - megathread - no
other posts allowed”; 1.5 minutes later dfqulpa says,
“THERE IS A NEW POST WHICH REPLACES THIS ONE” and links that megathread.
[crosses 02|03]
The Squidward turns are another observed sequence rather than a
demonstrated causal chain: dfr6ri9 says “Don't kill
Squidward” and compares the damage to what the Dutch did; 2.9 minutes
later dfr6wm4 says “Commence operation save squidward!”,
and dfr9vnb later apologizes and blames “trolls or
misinformed people.” The shared wording supports a response to the same
harm, but the forest places the first two in different branches.
A direct reply does support repair after a pride-flag objection.
dfrwl7f says proposed lettering lies over the flags of
r/TransFlagPlace; 2.8 minutes later dfrwqgk replies “oh
shit, soz” and proposes moving Ararat. Finally, 63bn9n asks
moderators to contain place posts because they crowd out Armenia
material; its reply dft1sdd, 232.8 minutes later, says
moderators try but predicts the posts will die down. This shows an
answered complaint, not that the complaint caused the event’s end.
Posts against comments
In batch 01, posts mobilize with decisive imperatives while comments
expose simultaneous bargaining. The post 62ve2r orders
expansion “AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND AT ALL COSTS”; the comment
dfpebqm says, “I still hope we may be ale to find peace
somehow.” The posts say expand and fight; the comment layer says
negotiate as well. Operational claims about coordinates, bar widths,
borders and maintenance live mainly in comments.
In batch 02, the post 62y7ms says a full flag and heart
are on the map; comments later say the same flag is disappearing and
must be abandoned. dfq74ck says, “I think we have to
abandon the current flag” and immediately lays out the next location and
colour sequence. The post layer presents completion; the comment layer
shows that completion becoming temporary and being rebuilt elsewhere.
Dutch takeover posts such as 62zpm9 say only “INPOLDEREN,”
while comments contain both condemnation and admiration of the
performance.
In batch 03, posts emphasize official threads, locations and
celebration. 63azno presents a good final space and cheers
participants; its comment layer includes dfsd0ai, which
recounts losing the first flag and failing at the second location before
securing space above India. That is development rather than
contradiction: the comments make the successful post’s compressed
backstory visible. The clearest late contradiction is between repeated
new place posts and the containment norm: 63bn9n asks for
one thread because the posts crowd out Armenia material, while
dft1sdd says users keep making new ones despite moderators
trying to contain them.
Across all batches, title-level posts disproportionately supply rallying calls and outcomes; comments supply how-to work, qualifications, disagreements, apologies and neighbour negotiations. These layer differences come from the slice accounts, each marked above by batch; the lead did not independently compare uncoded post and comment layers.
Counter-reading
My one-sentence reading is that r/armenia repeatedly built and rebuilt an Armenian flag, combining defence with neighbour help, negotiated limits and repair, then celebrated the surviving result while containing spillover and trying an unresolved replica.
Before searching, I wrote that this reading would be wrong if takeover and retaliation, rather than negotiated coexistence, dominated the room. In that case the record should contain repeated Armenian endorsements of overwriting neighbours after objections, rejecting truces or repair, or abandoning cooperative flag work.
The strongest contrary item already in the account is
62ypki: “Help us brothers, lets take over turkey. Take
revenge!” A focused search for takeover, revenge, replacement, ruin and
“pixels not politics” returned five items, all read through the
instrument. It also found dfphjgx, “Why don't you guys just
take over turkey,” and dfq6t2w, the proposal to replace the
Turkish flag; both became late codes. But the same result set contained
dfq79xc refusing to ruin another flag and
dfq7khm endorsing “Pixels not politics!”
A second search for rejected truces, continued attacks, giving up and
abandonment returned three items, all read. Two—dfq74ck and
dfq75c9—repeat relocation to an “abandoned space,” not
abandonment of the project. The third, dfqru02, reports
that Armenia took r/THE_PACK’s western border and threatens pushback; it
became a late border code. A final focused search for stopping help,
building or defence, or giving up the Armenian flag returned no items in
the supplied record. That null result covers those phrases and variants
in this corpus only; removals, off-platform coordination and the partial
historical record limit what the absence can establish.
The counter-reading therefore changes the qualification: takeover proposals and actual encroachment were genuine parts of the case, and negotiated coexistence was contested rather than uniform. The main reading survives because retaliation is explicitly refused in a consequential exchange, while help, borders, apology and repair recur into the final megathread. The new items extended existing takeover and border themes and did not require a post-search regrouping.
Saturation
Record saturation: every thread was disposed, all event-touching long threads in the slices were read whole, and the full original-canvas megathread reaches the post-closure comments. The record is nevertheless incomplete where deleted or removed bodies erase initiating proposals, linked images and the live canvas are not visible, and Discord exposes invitations and returned reports but not its interior decisions. In branch B no reader held the whole week; relations crossing 01|02 and 02|03 were assembled from separate slice readings and are stated conservatively. Slice boundaries were arbitrary with respect to ongoing threads, and there is no inter-coder agreement measure because one coder read each slice.
Conceptual saturation: the following themes first appear in batch 01 and are repeated or extended later: “planning where and how to make Armenian flags and hearts,” “expanding, defending, and maintaining Armenian pixels,” “asking neighbours for pixel help and returning it,” “negotiating borders and restraining expansion,” “fighting and narrating flag takeovers,” “celebrating and recounting what the flag effort achieved,” “joking through the great flag war,” “using and comparing Discord coordination,” “keeping place talk in designated threads,” “sharing flag designs and automatic-colouring tools,” and “repairing harm to neighbouring pictures.” The deliberately narrow singleton “calling out what phRQZRXYX1NI04Oyn2DTVC3MBQI= is doing” first appears in batch 02 and does not establish a broader new practice. “Carrying the Armenian flag into Place 2.0” first appears in batch 03. Thus later slices mostly repeat settled original-canvas practices, but the late replica is genuinely new and its outcome remains unsaturated.
Selection
The lead read the briefing and all openings before the gate, so the week’s distribution of place, election and ordinary posts was known before fleet triage. The fixed gate assigned branch B. Three coders then read whole-thread slices in corpus order, retaining conduct about r/place, its aftermath, moderation of place talk, and the event-recruited Place 2.0 effort. Ordinary election, politics, culture, news and help threads were disposed out of scope; qualifying large exclusions carry the instrument’s exact citations. The lead did not read raw threads while the fleet ran. After consolidation and theming, raw item access was used only for the required counter-reading, exact supporting words and instrument-served checks.
Other communities named
r/greece is an ally promised mutual help in dfp16pe.
r/Nehalennia asks to be spared in dfpkgcu; r/cirkeltrek is
blamed for “rogues/trolls” in dfpp236; r/Norge receives a
border assurance in dfpshfv; and r/greyblob thanks Armenia
for being “reliable neighbors” in dfpwmoy. r/Portugal
appears through a helper in dfprdi7, while r/placehearts
supplies a rule correction in dfpugn0.
Later, r/goodboye is neighbouring art protected alongside Armenia in
dfq35pl; r/THE_PACK is a truce counterpart in
dfqsmi5; and r/overwatch is named as the alternative Dutch
target in dfq6gjh. India becomes both a negotiated source
of help in dfqd0bh and a neighbour thanked for building
space in dfsbcxg. r/Israel and r/GreenLattice appear in a
help request carried outward through dfqztpa and
dfr0uzd; r/FlagAlliance supplies defensive-border advice in
dfrgpyw; and r/TransFlagPlace successfully objects to
overlapping lettering in dfrwl7f. These are this room’s
statements and exchanges, not reconstructions of the other communities’
positions.
Discord is a real organizing venue: dfq3ara gives an
invitation, and dfqv8kd says it is “the discord server that
we're using to coordinate.” Decisions and participants sometimes return
to Reddit, but most discussion does not. Imgur in 62qqvs
and Pixilart in dfpyqtu return locations or designs whose
images are unseen. Place 2.0/pxls.space in 63b4e1 carries
coordinates and a lettering proposal, but no visible outcome.
Absence
Deleted and removed bodies are concentrated in mobilisation,
proposal, Discord and aftermath posts. For example, 62pxxs
retains “LET'S PUT A FLAG IN /R/PLACE” while its body is deleted, and
63bn9n retains the crowding complaint while its body is
marked removed. The analysis uses those surviving titles narrowly and
does not reconstruct lost bodies. Deleted comments inside the megathread
also leave local conversational gaps, so the account does not claim
unanimity or recover who initiated every repair or incursion.
The archive cannot show the linked canvas, Imgur and Pixilart images, most Discord deliberation, or the work inside Place 2.0. Their visible invitations, coordinates, designs and returned reports are conduct; only their unseen interiors are gaps. Machine output was not treated as community conduct: the automatic-colouring material is a person sharing a tool, not evidence attributed to the tool itself.
